Jump in the Saddle! Horseback Riding at Mountain Springs Lodge

There’s something special about seeing the mountains from the back of a horse.

The rhythm of the ride, the sound of hooves along the trail, the quiet of the forest, and the chance to slow down and take in the scenery—it’s an experience that feels worlds away from everyday life.

At Mountain Springs Lodge, guests can enjoy the ultimate experience with Wild at Heart Horse Rides being located onsite, offering guided horseback rides through the beautiful Cascade foothills surrounding the lodge.

Whether you’re a first-time rider looking to try something new, an experienced equestrian hoping to spend more time in the saddle, or a couple looking for a memorable way to experience the mountains, Wild at Heart has a ride for you.

Meet Wild at Heart Horse Rides

Located at Mountain Springs Lodge in the Chiwawa Valley, Wild at Heart Horse Rides combines beautiful mountain scenery with a thoughtful approach to horsemanship. Owners Erin & Jason Boyes strive to provide the best experience for new and experienced riders alike.

The rides take place on privately owned trails that wind through forests, meadows, wetlands, and along Beaver Creek. Rather than simply taking a quick loop around a property, guests have the opportunity to slow down, learn about horses, and experience the landscape from a completely different perspective.

Wild at Heart practices natural horsemanship and places a strong emphasis on the health and happiness of its horses. The horses are routinely rotated so they have time to rest, graze and live their best lives.

That connection between horse, rider, and landscape is what makes a Wild at Heart ride such a memorable part of having the experience at Mountain Springs Lodge.

Choose Your Adventure

Wild at Heart offers several guided riding options, making it easy to find an experience that fits your group.

1.5-Hour Beginner Ride

For beginners, this 1.5-hour ride includes basic horsemanship instruction before heading out on the trail. Riders have an opportunity to practice their skills before leaving the barn, making this a great option for anyone who is nervous, inexperienced, or simply wants to build confidence in the saddle.

The trail travels through the woods, alongside Beaver Creek, and through natural wetlands with minimal elevation gain.

Minimum age: 6

2-Hour Alpine

Meadow Ride For a little more time on the trail, the 2-hour Alpine Meadow Ride takes riders approximately six miles through the forest and into beautiful mountain meadows.

Along the way, you’ll travel beneath the forest canopy, pass seasonal wildflowers and ponds, see a beaver dam, and cross Beaver Creek on a walking bridge.

Minimum age: 8

Private Horseback Rides

If you are looking for a more private ride, the experience can be customized to your group and are an especially wonderful choice for couples, families, celebrations, or riders who would appreciate some extra one-on-one instruction.

Private rides are also a great option for guests who may be nervous about horseback riding. Jason and Erin are able to tailor the experience to help riders feel comfortable and confident.

A Horseback Ride for the Whole Family

Horseback riding can be a wonderful addition to a family getaway at Mountain Springs Lodge.

Wild at Heart welcomes young riders beginning at age six, with specific age requirements depending on the ride.

Children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult, and riders are matched with horses based on factors including riding experience, height, and weight.

For families with children who have never ridden before, the Beginner Ride provides an opportunity to learn basic riding skills before heading out onto the trail. And for parents, there’s something pretty special about watching a child experience the excitement of meeting a horse and exploring the mountains from the saddle for the first time.
